Restaurants from Staten Island to Napa Valley are joining us for a week of restaurant events, " A Slow Taste of Italy." These prix fixe celebrations are in honor of local, sustainable, slow food across North America and in celebration of Chef Jessica Theroux's Cooking with Italian Grandmothers: Recipes and Stories from Tuscany to Sicily with an introduction by Alice Waters.

Here you will find the list of participating restaurants organized alphabetically by state. You will also find the names of their chefs, their addresses, the time of their dinners and the link where diners can go to make their reservations. If there is a local slow food organization or edible magazine sponsoring the event, it is also listed. On this site, you can see the commemorative limited edition signed bookplate which will only be available, through the listed participating restaurants to the diners receiving a copy of Cooking with Italian Grandmothers: Recipes and Stories from Tuscany to Sicily, Here, you can download videos and press material, photographs from the book, as well as the cover photo, author photo and Alice's introduction.

The purpose of this evening is to celebrate the eating of delicious local food, the farmers who grow this food, the chefs who serve this food, and the organizations who help make it available. The reason this "special dinner" celebrates Cooking with Italian Grandmothers: Recipes and Stories from Tuscany to Sicily is because Jessica Theroux found the soul of the slow food movement in the hearts of twelve Italian grandmothers during her fifteen months travelling in Italy. It is essential that brilliant and beautiful books are created to galvanize the movement pushing our country towards healing and sustainability. North America is just waking up to the distinctive taste of vegetables just out of the garden, fruit that is right off the branch, and fish straight from the sea. Jessica Theroux is a documentarian, photographer, author, and chef with a dedication to sustainability, authenticity, and the art of listening.
